Our goal
Our goal is that each student will excel in relation to their starting place and their abilities. We will succeed when we (students, parents, teacher) are all surprised at the students' progress.

Our approach is strength-based. This means that a student's studies may be at very different levels in different strands. For instance, a student may have bogged down in re-grouping in addition/subtraction, or in multiplication facts, or in the processes of long division, or in grasping fractions (sound familiar?). Yet, this same student may understand well when given hands-on materials, engaging practical assignments, and a supportive peer group. This student may eventually spend much of each 90 minute class learning concepts at and above "grade level", while also spending time using hands-on materials to truly grasp those "obstacle" skills that had created frustration.
Our process

Everything begins with our free consultation which allows us to meet, ask questions, and find out your student's strengths (and obstacles) in math.

Classes themselves consist of a blend of individualized programs at a student's level and team-based lessons in which new concepts and practical studies are learned. Students freely help each other. We actively teach teamwork and social skills and we help students to recognize when they are using them effectively. The need to function effectively as a team is emphasized in challenges and puzzles they take on together, and in co-operative games which they either win or lose as one entire class team.
Teamwork with Families

From our initial contact to our consultation, and throughout the course, two-way communication is valuable and helps to amplify the benefits for your student. Ask us if you would like to join us during classes and see what your student is learning. Students may choose to take select assignments home to continue, but there is no assigned homework.
